People Mover

Sunday, October 19, 2008

The Detroit People Mover (DPM) is a fully automated light rail system that operates on an elevated single track loop in Detroit's central business district. Service is frequent, unencumbered by vehicle or pedestrian traffic, and conveniently available throughout the central business district. The integration of eight of the thirteen People Mover stations into pre-existing structures links over 9 million square feet that can be traversed unimpeded by outside elements.

Normal weekday operating hours are 6:30 am to midnight, with an extension to 2 am on Friday. Weekend hours are 9 am to 2 am on Saturday and 12 noon to midnight on Sunday. Round trip on the system is approximately 15 minutes and wait time between trains average from 3 to 4 minutes. Average stop at each station is 20 seconds.

People Mover fare is $.50 one way and can be paid by U.S. coins (nickels, dimes, quarters), People Mover tokens (available for purchase at stations) and by monthly, semi-annual, annual and special event passes. All stations are equipped with automatic turnstiles and disability accessible gates.
